Job Position: Senior Staff Accountant

Hours: Monday to Friday. Flexible work environment or remote work options after probationary period.

Wage: $85k - $100k per year

Location: Lincolnwood, IL

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, a commitment to process improvement, and the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization.

As our Food For Thought Staff Accountant, you will take charge of key accounting functions, drive financial accuracy, and contribute to the preparation of critical financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee general ledger entries, reconcile accounts, and ensure financial records are accurate and compliant with company policies.

• Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing journal entries and compiling financial reports.

• Generate, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure they align with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

• Supervise and coordinate accounts payable and receivable activities, ensuring timely payments and collections.

• Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and forecasts by providing accurate financial insights and analysis.

• Support the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

• Ensure accurate payroll accounting and benefits-related transactions, resolving discrepancies as they arise.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to increase department efficiency and financial accuracy.

• Prepare schedules, work papers, and responses to audit inquiries, ensuring readiness for audits.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, operations, HR) to align financial reporting and practices across departments.

• Mentor and guide other accounting staff to enhance their skills and improve team performance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus.

• 4-6 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a similar role.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.

• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with tax preparation and regulatory compliance.

• Knowledge of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes.

• Familiarity with internal controls and process improvements.
