Middle School Music Teacher '25-'26

The Music Department of Germantown Friends School is seeking an experienced teaching musician to provide full-time instruction in our middle school music program. Students at Germantown Friends School have required instruction in general music as well as opportunities to elect into vocal and instrumental ensembles and musical theatre. We seek an experienced educator who can enact our general music program and also teach in our vocal and musical theater program. Successful candidates will have a relevant degree in performance or pedagogy and a demonstrated desire to develop young musicians. A master’s degree is preferred.

The ideal candidate:

• has a strong background in music and in instructing students in grades 6-8.
• has lead teaching experience.
• can teach our middle school general music programs.
• can contribute to our musical theater program as a musical director and/or accompanist.
• has experience as a choral conductor.
• can be a creative, thoughtful collaborator with Music Department colleagues in the continual search for innovative ways to educate the whole child.
• is able to participate in ways that support the GFS commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• can differentiate instruction

Expectations

• Manage a full teaching load.
• Advise a group of 8-10 students.
• Participate in the life of the school, including required meetings and duties.
• Write timely reports.
• Support the school mission and strategic initiatives.
