Manager, Test Engineering | Hybrid in Austin, TX | Direct Hire/W2 Only!

Optomi, in partnership with a leader in the financial sector, is seeking a Manager in Test Engineering for a hybrid position out of their office in Austin, TX. This candidate will lead the testing engineering function within our Data Platform Engineering team. This is a hybrid leadership and hands-on role focused on ensuring the integrity, performance, and reliability of data pipelines and infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in data engineering environments, coupled with strong leadership capabilities to manage a small, globally distributed QA team.

Experience of the right candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing QA or Test Engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on skills in Python (with emphasis on PySpark and Pandas).
• Deep expertise in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
• Solid experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and other Azure data services.
• Familiarity with API testing and understanding of backend data integrations.
• Experience with QA processes in data-focused environments (e.g., data pipelines, ETL/ELT, data warehousing).
• Working knowledge of CI/CD processes and automated testing in cloud-based ecosystems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Snowflake, SSIS, or similar data warehouse/ETL platforms.
• Exposure to UI automation frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
• Background in wealth management or financial services domains.
• Familiarity with Salesforce testing and integrations.

Responsibilities of the right candidate:

• Lead a test engineering team of four (1 onsite and 3 offshore engineers), providing mentorship, technical direction, and career development support.
• Own and evolve test strategy for our data platforms—primarily focused on backend testing and data quality assurance.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure robust testing practices across all data pipelines and integrations.
• Build, enhance, and maintain automated test frameworks written in Python (with emphasis on PySpark and Pandas).
• Develop complex SQL queries for data validation and testing in large-scale environments.
• Support quality efforts across platforms including Azure (especially Azure Data Factory), Databricks, and SQL Server.
• Contribute hands-on to testing activities (~80% technical, ~20% managerial).
• Oversee limited API testing as part of backend validation processes.
• Participate in occasional Salesforce-related QA efforts (minimal).
• Help establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated test suites.
• Lead documentation efforts for test plans, test cases, and automation strategies.
• Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
