NYS Public Officers Law Book Ethics Handbook for NYS Employees ( Connect With Us Job Details SUNY New Paltz VacancyExternal Posting (Professional) Applications are invited for consideration for appointment to the following position: Department: Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Budget Title: Staff Associate Local Title: Director of Sports Medicine Posting Date: December 30, 2024 Classification: SL-4 Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the role of Director of Sports Medicine in the Department of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation. This full-time, ten-month position will be responsible for the vision and operations for the sports medicine/athletic training services on campus for our student-athletes. They will manage the sports-medicine needs of 16 varsity teams/350 student-athletes. They will also supervise an Associate Athletics Trainer (full-time) and two Assistant Athletic Trainers (part-time). Our University is an NCAA Division III member that holds memberships in the SUNYAC (State University of New York Athletics Conference) & UVC (United Volleyball Conference). The director will serve as a senior staff member within the department and report directly to the Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:• Uphold the Standards of Professional Practice for Athletic Trainers ( Effectively manage the financial resources and human resources allotted to the program, including scheduling and supervising the Associate and Assistant Athletic Trainers• Ensure proper safety precautions are followed at all times. Revise, develop and implement policies to enhance the safety of New Paltz student-athletes, as well as emergency procedures to effectively respond to accidents and injuries• Establish clear expectations and rules for Athletic Training Room procedure and protocol in conjunction with the Student-Athlete Handbook, as well as the rules and regulations for eligibility and participation established by the NCAA• Work with athletic administration to provide appropriate athletic training coverage at all varsity competitions and provide resources for practices• Continue to develop and to maintain a strong working relationship with: Student Health Services, the Psychological Counseling Department, the Disability Resource Center, and the University appointed physician by sharing information in an effective and efficient manner• Serve as a member of senior staff as well as perform university service Qualifications: Required:• Bachelor’s degree in related fields of athletic training• Must be eligible for New York State Training License – and obtain within 1 year of appointment; and possess NATABOC Certification as an athletic trainer• Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student–athletes, coaches and staff• Five (5) years’ experience organizing, planning, and implementing athletic training services for intercollegiate student-athletes in a 4-year college setting• Ability to work weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs• Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required Preferred:• Master’s degree Contact Information: Electronic submissions required.
