Job Title: Accounting Specialist

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite)
Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 per year
Schedule: M-F 8a-5p, during summers have Fridays off

Our client's CPA firm has been in business for over 50 years, providing comprehensive services such as tax preparation, small business consulting, government compliance, payroll services, and tax planning. While their firm maintains a national presence with over 300 locations, their local office is small. They offer strong training, a family-style work environment, and minimal client foot traffic. This is a fully onsite position in a quiet, family-oriented office environment. The role offers flexibility with preferred hours of 8 AM to 5 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. During tax season next year, expect approximately 45 hours per week; however, there will be no overtime required this tax season . In the summer, enjoy shorter workweeks of approximately 32 hours, with Fridays off.

Responsibilities:

• Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts

• Input client expenditures and payroll hours into Gusto payroll system (transitioning away from ADP)

  • Gather data from customer sales reports and bank statements

  • Manage payroll for about 20 clients (approximately 100 employees total) on a biweekly/weekly basis

• Prepare payroll-related tax forms for federal, state, and local agencies

• Issue checks for clients

• File monthly sales tax returns for approximately 18 clients, including calculating sales tax, filing returns, and scheduling client payments

Software Used:

• QuickBooks Online (training available)

• Thomson Reuters Tax Software

• Gusto Payroll (experience preferred but not required)

Qualifications:
Must Have:

• Strong math aptitude and attention to detail

• 1-2 years of accounting experience (AP/AR) or entry-level office/admin experience with a desire to grow into accounting

• Willingness to learn and develop skills in QuickBooks and Gusto

Preferred:

• Degree in accounting or related field

• Payroll experience

• Tax experience

• Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise (highly preferred)

• Familiarity with Gusto payroll system

Dress Code: Business casual; jeans allowed on Fridays (no tennis shoes).
